The effects of the substituents in the chemiluminescence of peroxyoxalate were elucidated by single crystal measurements and theoretical studies. The chemiluminescence efficiencies observed for several typical aryl oxalates increase with the increase of the positive charge of carbonyl carbon atoms The calculation of the electron density function confirms the activity of aryl oxalate attack on nucleophilic hydrogen peroxide.
