Objective To monitor the mosquito population and density in Longgang District and lay the foundation for the effective control of mosquito-borne diseases during Shenzhen Universiade. Methods From March to December 2009, mosquito lamps were installed in 10 streets in Longgang District in mid-January to monitor the density of adult mosquitoes in hospitals, greenery and residential areas. Results A total of 98 mosquito-killing lamps were placed in 10 streets of Longgang District. There were 600 mosquito-ovitrap plants, 369 households were surveyed, 730 indoor and outdoor containers were tested, and 3 mosquitoes of 6 species with 1082 mosquitoes were detected. The average adult mosquito density 1.4 / h. Among them, Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus was the dominant mosquito species (71.3%), container index was 25.8, and Bretton chart index was 50.7. Conclusion The mosquito density and Bretti’s index in Longgang District greatly exceeded the national standard, suggesting that mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue fever and Japanese encephalitis may be endemic.
