吴竞同志的《略谈东吴大学建校经过》一文,清楚地说明了东吴大学的创办过程,纠正了某些书刊上的谬误,信而有征。吴文寻根探源,追溯到存养、博习、中西诸书院,为研究东吴大学的历史提供了重要的材料。可是,读后觉得意有未尽,且个别细节似乎稍有出入,爰再略加补充,请吴竞同志指教。美国监理公会在苏州创办学校是从曹子实开始的。曹子实是一个孤儿,1859年被美国监理公会传教士蓝柏(J.W.Lambuths)带往美国,在美国受了洗礼,教名是查理·马歇尔(Charley Marshall)。不久,蓝柏又来上海,把曹子实留在美国,交给凯利医生(Dr.D.
Comrade Wu Jing’s article “A Brief Introduction to the Establishment of Schools at Soochow University” clearly illustrates the founding process of Soochow University and corrected the fallacies in certain books and periodicals.
