In general, the French Enlightenment laid the ideological foundation for the liberation of Jews politically, as the spirit of equality advocated by the Enlightenment and the anti-religious rational thought did indeed provide favorable conditions for undermining Jewish discrimination. However, the Enlightenment also emphasized nationalism, especially cultural racism, so that while the Great Revolution and the Napoleonic Empire conferred Jewish citizenship, they also demanded that Jews should integrate into the French nation and accept the transformation of the French nation. In this way, the result of the liberation of Jews did not achieve its intended purpose. Not only did the Jews not completely transform their nationality, but instead their nationality was strengthened.
