The State of Health in the United States, 1985 is the 10th annual report submitted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services to the President and Congress. This report was prepared by the National Health Statistics Center. The main contents of the report are as follows: Health status and its influencing factors In 1983, the average life expectancy in the United States was 74.6 years, of which the white female was the longest, 78.7 years; followed by the female black 73.6 years, the male white 71.1 years, and the male black 65.4 years. Although women’s life expectancy has increased even more than men’s since 1950, this trend appears to have been reversed in the mid-1970s, such as the average between men and women in 1975–83.
