This is a rapidly developing technology for compaction of powder metallurgy parts and castings with the aim of improving their mechanical properties. Hot Isostatic Pressing, often referred to as HIP, did not develop straightforward until the mid-1960s. The essence of this process is the process of applying pressure to the material being heat treated with an inert gas. It has been demonstrated that this process is widely used on many materials. The number of HIP-treated materials has been significantly increased at Industrial Materials Technologg, Inc. Andover, Mass. Even in times of economic depression, it has doubled every two years or so.
