闹洞房,是我国婚姻习俗中的一个重要组成部分,有着悠久的历史传统。葛洪的《抱朴子》云:“世俗有戏妇之法,于稠众之中,亲属之前,问以丑言,责以慢对,其为鄙黩,不可忍言。”《酉阳杂俎·礼异》云:“近世娶妇之家,弄新妇。”弄新妇,就是闹洞房。三国时期大政治家、军事家、文学家曹操,在少年时候就曾参与过一次闹洞房的恶作剧。据《太平广记》卷190引《小说》云:“魏武少时,曾与袁绍好为游侠。观人新婚,因潜入主人园中,夜叫呼云:‘有偷儿至！’庐中人皆出观,帝乃抽刃劫新妇。与绍还出,失道,坠枳棘中。绍不能动。帝复大叫:‘偷儿今在此！’绍惶迫自掷出,俱免。”由此看来,闹洞房的习俗,早在汉代就已十分流行。
