湘江血战是中央红军长征中打得最激烈,也是损失最大的一仗。当年,作为红三军团政治部保卫局侦察部的一员,我亲历了这一场让我终生难忘的战斗。离别苏区1934年10月,我所在的军委训练五团驻于都城内,当时我任团特派员,直属中央国家政治保卫局领导。我的任务是做好部队纯洁工作,了解部队的政治思想和部队人员成分,并在每个连队的班内发展优秀青年的网员(每班2到3人)。
