BAY has recognized that the long-term structural health monitoring of large bridges has the significance of ensuring early warning of structural and operational safety damage and aging that avoids costly repairs and even catastrophic collapse. The establishment of a long-term monitoring system for large bridges, on the one hand, is to evaluate the structural integrity, durability and reliability during the normal life of the bridge and to formulate the best maintenance plan to ensure safe operation. On the other hand, technical challenges are at different levels, from the selection of suitable sensors to the design of structural health assessment systems. This article explores the latest technological developments in the health monitoring and application of large bridges. There is an increasing need for paradigms for the structural and health assessment of technological convergence in different disciplines that can truly assist in the rehabilitation, maintenance and emergency repair of bridges.
