盆景(盆栽)的无土化已是当今商品化生产的必然趋势,传统的腐殖质土壤和有机肥将逐渐被无机物和无机营养液所替代。正是基于这种认识,笔者自1989年开始,历经六年时间,对赤楠进行小批量水培试验,获得可喜成功。这些用青花景瓷作容器,自行配制营养液,培育的赤楠老桩盆景,苍劲繁茂、叶色浓郁、花繁果硕、根系发达。与用常规土培养的相比较,无任何异常现象,并具有养护简便、清洁卫生、不污染环境等许多优点,深受盆景爱好者的喜爱,为盆景无土化培育作了一次有成效的尝试。水培成功的内因和外因是:赤楠本身具有耐涝不怕水的生理习性,其次是任何生物都具对外界环境的适应性。当它由土壤中生长改变为水中生长,由吸收有机营养改为吸收无机营养时,由吸收气态氧改为吸收水溶性氧时,只要过渡条件得当,植物本身就有可能逐渐适应这一转变,从而在新的生态环境中获得生长。如果用怕水忌涝的榆树来水培,虽然它同样具有对环境改变的适应性,但与它本身的生理习性相悖,恐怕是难以获得成功的。如果用柳树来水
