Taking William Blake’s poem “A Poisonous Tree” as an example, this article explores the practice of narrative. The story tells the relationship between the media and human psychology’s ability to construct the world. It aims to put forward some new directions for post-classical narratology research. I refer to the three fields of story, media and psychology, and discuss the construction of the narrative world with some texts that use more than one symbolic channel like Black’s. By studying how these texts lead interpreters to infer the structure or existence of “narrated world ” or “story world ”, I also explore the unique narrative style of (cross-media) world construction. The article concludes with some suggestions on how to expand my analysis of Blake’s “visual-language” narrative.
