According to the Shanghai Metals Exchange expert analysis; in 1992 the international market of copper, aluminum, lead, zinc, nickel and other six major non-ferrous metals production is greater than consumption. Due to the slow economic growth in the developed countries of the United States and the European Community, oversupply in the non-ferrous metals market led to the drop of major metals prices. In December 1992, the spot price of LME copper dropped below about 2,200 U.S. dollars per tonne, while the price of aluminum fell below 1,100 U.S. dollars and nickel dropped to a record low. Experts estimate that there will be a certain rebound in the demand for non-ferrous metals market this year, but it should not be too optimistic.
