随着焊接技术的发展,一般厚度較大的金属的切断,已經不再应用机械方法,而多采用气切割法和电弧切割法来完成了。普通的气团割法,广泛用于切割各种低碳鋼。这种材料虽然也可用电弧——碳弧、金属弧来切断,但是这兩种方法只是借助于熔化金属的作用使金属分离,因此切边表面不够光洁。对于有色金属及其合金的切割,以上所述的那些方法是很少成功的。近几年来,苏联莫斯科高等工业学校曾經研究出氧熔剂切割法,用它可以切断不銹钢和一些有色金属,如銅及其合金等。
