For China and the EU, the past May is just too unusual: the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU; the rejection by the French and Dutch governments of the “EU Constitution” puts the EU in such dire straits; the trade friction between China and the EU is extremely hot. These few things, enough to attract the attention of the world. Of course, people will also explore the links between them ... On June 7, “China-EU Economic and Trade Forum 2005” co-hosted by the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs, the “World Knowledge” magazine and the EU delegation to China was held in Beijing’s Diaoyutai Hotel. Much of the text in this column comes from forum presentations (abridged). The rest of the wonderful speech we will publish one after another. ---editor
