Objective To understand the self-injury status and influencing factors of deaf-mute junior high school students, and to provide basis for the intervention and correction of self-injury behaviors of deaf-mute students. Methods A total of 211 students from 7 deaf-mute schools were sampled from some parts of the country to conduct self-injury questionnaire. Results The reported rate of self-injury of deaf-mute middle school students in the last 1 years was 83.4%. There was no significant difference in the incidence of self-injury between deaf and dumb students in all grades (χ2 =, P> 0.05). There was significant difference in the incidence of intentional scratching and self-injurious behavior between deaf students with different genders (χ2 = 11.55, 6.40, P <0.05 respectively). Deaf students in rural areas deliberately beat themselves, bite themselves, and deliberately cut their own incidence were higher than city deaf students (χ2 values were 11.82,10.04,8.33, P <0.05). Conclusion Self-injury behaviors are common in deaf students and their incidence is high. There should be purposeful intervention to prevent self-injury.
