传统的师生关系一直提倡师道尊严,学生只是被动的接受、按照教师的意愿完成任务,缺少了交流和沟通。特别在农村中学,体育一直处于“副课”的地位,师生关系更不被关注。在实施新课标的课改中,传统的师生关系、师生角色发生了很大的变化,从过去的教师为主体转变成以学生为主体。新课程需要新型的师生关系,新课程的知识不再是过去的一味被动接受,而是由多部分组成:教科书的知识、教师个人的知识、师生互动产生的新知识、学生合作学习相互传授的知识等等。这种知识结构也必然改变学习方式,合作学习、探究学习等多种学习方式也必然导致师生关系的改变.
