异戊二烯是生产性能优异“克瑞尔”合成橡膠的單体。它的制法計有:第一,烯萜的热解,由于烯萜来源有限,工业上无大价值。第二,异丁烯与甲醛反应,第三,法伏尔斯基法:乙炔和丙酮的反应。第四,异戊烷、异戊烯的脫氫。目前仅有第二法投入工厂生产,但成本高,因而限制了“克瑞尔”合成橡膠的大量生产。所以現阶段寻找C_5脫氫而制取异戊二烯的工业途徑是具有重大实际意义的,尤其是处在盛产石油的西北地区——蘭州,建有最新技术生产的煉油厂和橡膠
