Hainan Island is the second largest island in China after Taiwan. The island has a hot climate and rich natural resources. It is rich in rice, potatoes and rubber, coconut, oil palm and tropical fruits. Beyond the Qiongzhou Strait and the Leizhou Peninsula, it is also an important strategic base on the southern coast line of China.
