Air entering the vein or arterial circulation for some reason can cause cerebral air embolism (brain embolism), leading to serious neurological disorders or death. From 1970 to 1984, the United States Air Force Medical School used hyperbaric oxygen to treat 16 patients with brain-air embolism caused by invasive medical procedures, achieving satisfactory results. The group of 16 cases were treated. There were 14 males and 2 females, with an average age of 56 years. Most cases due to suffering from various diseases need for invasive examination and treatment, with cardiovascular disease and malignant tumors more common. Subclavian vein indwelling catheter for parenteral nutrition therapy is the most common cause of air embolism.
