Since most of the telephones were compromised, he was unable to get in touch with other landing forces and sent out liaisons. Marines have been dispersed into small units spread over long, coral sand beaches. Some players have gone deep into the island for 100 yards, but most are still crouched under the breakwater to avoid bullets sweeping the beach.
