前言 19世纪的中期,即两次鸦片战争之间,《南京条约》的签订,使得中国的门户大开,众多的外国使团及旅行家们纷纷来到中国,并深入内地,以考察或旅居的名义,从事各种文化传播活动;同时也拍摄了大量的照片,记录了当时社会生活的各个方面。英国出版的《摄影的历史》就记录了英国的旅行家们19世纪在中国的一些活动,其中包括他们拍摄的照片。这些照片成为研究中国近代社会历史与生活的重要资料。
Preface The signing of the “Treaty of Nanjing” between the mid-19th century and the two Opium Wars led to the opening up of China. Many foreign missions and travelers came to China and went deep into the Mainland to study or live In the name of a variety of cultural activities; also took a lot of photos, recorded all aspects of social life at the time. British History of Photography records the 19th century British travelers’ activities in the UK, including photographs taken by them.
