It is full of confidence that the 10 billion euros ITER project is a nuclear fusion process. It is the process of combining two light nuclei into one heavy nucleus, which is the energy source of the sun and the stars. The long-term goal of nuclear fusion research is to harness this process to help meet the future energy needs of humankind. Nuclear fusion has the potential to provide environmentally-friendly energy on a large scale and safely with a wide range of available and abundant fuel resources.
