The rise and fall of the royal family is not only a microcosm of the development of the country’s history but also an important part of world history. At present, there are 25 countries in the world that still have the royal family. One of them is Japan in East Asia. The existence of the emperor and the royal family is still a social reality in Japan in the near future. The imperial court headed by the emperor is Japan’s largest family system and is also a portrayal of modern Japanese social life. This article intends to present the complicated aspects of the Japanese royal family in several aspects, from the new and old “imperial models” of Ming and Qing Dynasties to the period of Heisei, royal marriage, royal succession and royal property, to provide a window for us to better understand Japan.
