China’s import of cotton from the United States has a positive effect on resource conservation and environmental protection in China and the world at large. The environmental damage accompanying the export of textiles and garments is borne solely by China. While enjoying the products of “cheap and beautiful” in China, the United States has not made any compensation for the resource pressure and environmental damage in China. The formation of the trade pattern between China and the United States in cotton and its products is, in essence, the inevitable result of the international industrial division of labor and structural adjustment brought by economic globalization.
