In Europe, buildings account for 40% of all energy use and 36% for carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, while most of the energy and CO2 emissions are due to poor building insulation measures. Responding to climate change and energy consumption, the EU has set a corresponding target that specifies that by 2050, the average CO2 emissions of buildings should be reduced by more than 80%.
