Objective To investigate the nutritional status of elderly hospitalized patients in our hospital by using the mini-nutrition assessment method (MNA-SF) and to observe the effect of nutritional intervention on patients with malnutrition. Methods We randomly selected 400 hospitalized patients over the age of 65 in our hospital for MNA-SF evaluation. Patients in the group were grouped by malnutrition, risk of malnutrition and normal nutritional status, and nutritional interventions were given to malnourished groups. Results MNA-SF survey showed malnutrition in 72 patients (18.0%), malnutrition risk in 206 patients (51.5%) and normal nutrition status in 122 patients (30.5%). The malnutrition group albumin, total protein and prealbumin were lower than normal nutrition group and malnutrition risk group, and the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). Conclusion The incidence of malnutrition and malnutrition in elderly hospitalized patients is high. MNA-SF can detect the malnutrition risk of elderly patients earlier and intervene as soon as possible. MNA-SF is a simple and easy way to assess the nutritional status of elderly patients.
