2009年至2010年,广州市文物考古研究所在报请国家文物局审核同意后,会同增城市博物馆对浮扶岭高速公路施工涉及的区域进行了抢救性勘探和发掘,清理新石器时代晚期至明代墓葬525座,明代砖瓦窑址1座,共出土文物2000余件(套)。该地作为专门的墓葬埋藏区早到新石器时代晚期,晚到近现代,延续时间近4000年,西周至春秋阶段是墓地使用的高峰期。浮扶岭墓地年代跨度长、墓葬数量多、分布密集、内涵丰富,是广东省继博罗横岭山之后的又一重大考古发现。
