The U.S. think tank New America Security Center (CNAS) released a report on November 14, 2016 titled “Anti-balance: Re-balancing the Asia Pacific Re-Balance Strategy with the Red Hypothetical Enemy Method.” The full report contains 70 pages. In the Asia-Pacific maritime strategy, the U.S. Defense Department described the three fundamental U.S. interests in the Asia Pacific region as guaranteeing freedom of navigation, deterring conflicts and coercion and promoting compliance with international law and standards.
