学习近现代史经常会遇到“印度支那”一词。如19世纪末20世纪初法国侵占“印度支那”的越南、老挝和柬埔寨,1954年日内瓦会议第二阶段讨论恢复“印度支那”的和平问题。那么,“印度支那”指哪些地方?为什么叫“印度支那”?“支那”是外国人对中国的称呼。这一称呼最早出现于印度的梵文中,公元前四世纪印度的一些论著中就已有“支那”之名。在中国的一些佛教典藉中也有若干记录,如唐僧玄奘所写的《大唐西域记》记录了他与印度戒日王的对话:“王曰:唐国在何方,经途所?去斯远近?对曰:当在东北数万余里,印度所谓摩诃至那是
