Japanese tea flourished gradually from about 1965 onwards, with the increase of cultivation area and output. In particular, from 1970 onwards, the area under cultivation has increased from 1,700 to 2,000 hectares per year, with the output increasing at a rate of 2,000 tons. In 1973, the output exceeded 100,000 tons. Supply slightly surpassed the need in 1974, and the price of summer tea dropped significantly. Therefore, the tea farmers controlled the production of summer tea and conducted the so-called independent production adjustment. As a result, the output in 1974 was reduced by nearly 6,000 tons compared with 1973. According to the statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the cultivated area of Japanese tea trees was 48,500 hectares in 1965 and 58,400 hectares in 1974; the initial tea production was 74,431 in 1965
