宜春县东方紅公社衛生院,1959年种了一亩杭菊花丰产试驗田,在破除迷信、解放思想的前提下获得了丰收。他們从县医药公司調进杭菊种苗以后,于雨水节后次日(1959午2月20日),將苗育在土地里。至清明苗已长高8寸左右,采取“剪枝插苗”的方法,栽插于预先整好的地里。同年立冬后七天,开始第一次摘花,以后每隔5～7天,继续采摘第二次、第三次。东方紅公社卫生(?)一亩杭菊丰产試驗田,前后摘到鲜花1,989.5斤,加工干燥后为398斤。获得丰产的关鍵如下。
