In the months following the Wuchang uprising, the women of Hunan Province either took to the battlefield and fought bloody battles with the Qing troops; or worked hard at the rear to raise funds for military logistics and donated their money to meet with the men. After the success of the revolution, they used the principle of reciprocity of obligations and rights as justification. They unselfishly devoted themselves to the women’s political participation campaign and fought for women’s participation in political power in the form of knots, writings, petitions and the establishment of newspapers and periodicals. Despite the eventual failure of the movement, the transformation of ideology among the advanced women from “doing their duty ” to “enjoying rights ” shows the awakening of the awareness of women and men themselves in the early Republic of China, represented by the Hunan female actresses.
