土壤、天然水及植物中锰的现行测定方法是基于下列方程式氧化到MnO_4~-的显色反应:可以用(NH_4)_2S_2O_8、碘酸或KIO_4,铋酸钠或PbO_2作为氧化剂。Mn~(++)与KIO_4,的反应具有最高的灵敏度,但由于试剂的供应比较困难,IO_4~-法较少采用。其他方法则灵敏度不够。当样品中锰含量<20γ时,分析必须要求有大的秤量,这使分析复杂化,并增大误差的可能性,我们试验了Mn~(++)与甲醛肟的反应,以及利用这一反应以光电比色测定Mn~(++)的可能性。
