Editor in accordance with the current issue of concern originated in June 2016 at the longjing silkworm farm held “environment-effect-form” seminar. Technology and the environment may be one of the most important keywords in architecture in the 20th century. Technology is often regarded as neutral, universal, and cumulatively evolved, linked to a problem-solving, systematic project; and the environment was gradually transformed from the concrete context of life into a quantifiable Objective boundary conditions. The coupling of the two has certain inevitability: the environment makes the building get rid of the implication of history and society and becomes the direct target of technology. In turn, technology is the core way of regulating the natural environment and transforming it into an artificial environment. In a technologically-immature new dualism, architecture is reduced to a directly generated abstract product. The magazine invited three scholars to re-examine the relationship between technology and the environment in the perspective of contemporary architecture.
