This paper describes a sample preparation method that can be used for the determination of trace amounts of thorium and uranium in coal ash by ICP-AES. After the sample was acid-decomposed, thorium and uranium were separated from the matrix by 2-TTA-benzene extraction. Ascorbic acid was added, the pH was adjusted to 1.2, thorium was extracted with 0.25 mol / L TTA, and uranium (Ⅵ) was extracted with 0.16 mol / L TTA after adjusting the pH to 3.5 after the addition of EDTA. The amount of EDTA added to the sample solution must be adequate, with excess EDTA reducing uranium recovery.
