Mark Twain is one of the greatest writers in the 19th century American literary world. His masterpiece The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a treasures of American literature and a treasure of American culture. By describing the magical adventure of a white child and a black slave before the American Civil War, the work reflects the social reality of the time in the United States and greatly influenced people’s way of life, social customs and values. The purpose of this article is to explore the success of the work from three aspects: the realism, the portrayal of characters and the local colors so that the readers have a more thorough understanding of the work.
