Objective To compare the satisfaction of edentulous jaw patients with two types of dentures in retention, stability and masticatory ability. Methods Twenty cases of newly diagnosed dentition defect were divided into two groups: group A had better alveolar ridge (Ⅰ, Ⅱ), group B had less alveolar ridge (Ⅲ, Ⅳ). For each patient, a maxillary 舌 and anatomic complete dentures were simultaneously made and patients were rated for satisfaction with the denture after 3 months of wear. Results Patients in group A scored higher on mastication ability of the complete denture. The patients in group B had higher scores on the stability and mastication of the lingual central complete denture. Conclusion The lingual central complete denture has good retention, stability and chewing ability, which is more superior to the edentulous patients with poor alveolar ridge condition.
