The Ransen movement formed in France in the 17th century was an important religious movement in the Catholic anti-reform movement. Ransen sent criticism of the Morinian and Jesuit theologians on the theological issue of the relationship between God’s grace and free will. This criticism continues the critique of Pelagianism by Augustine in the history of Christian theology. However, this critique is not merely a dialogue within Christian theology, but also reflects Ransen’s rejection of modernity. As a result, Ransen’s influence went beyond theological and religious aspects, promoting the formation of political discourse against anti-absolute monarchy and exerting a significant influence on the political movements of France in the latter part of the old system. The study of Ransen’s theology and politics of the seventeenth century helped to understand the complex relationship between Christianity and modernity and the anti-religious tendencies in modern French politics.
