Objective: To investigate the anesthetic management of laser treatment of maxillofacial venules in children. Methods: A retrospective review of 1,200 children with maxillofacial vena cava laser treatment in our hospital from 2004 to 2009 was performed. Children given ketamine after the start of laser treatment, surgery to maintain spontaneous breathing, to maintain airway patency, to maintain a suitable depth of anesthesia, and to respiratory monitoring and management. Results: All the patients with maxillofacial venules had laser treatment under ketamine-based anesthesia without serious complications. All patients were observed for 4 hours after the treatment was completed, and they were safely discharged from the hospital after complete awake. Conclusion: To improve perioperative airway and respiratory management, non-tracheal intubation general anesthesia can safely and effectively laser treatment of maxillofacial venules in children.
