At 7.19 am on April 14, 2010, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit Yushu County, Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai Province, killing more than 2,800 people. Afterwards, on behalf of the Ministry of Construction, China Architecture Society organized an architect’s cluster design for Yushu reconstruction. I was also fortunate enough to attend and create the Yushu Earthquake Relic Memorial Hall. Yushu earthquake site memorial hall is not large-scale, with a total construction area of 3000m ~ 2. In the face of this propositional design task, which is presumed to be a disaster recording event and a reflection of Tibet’s concept of life and death, the biggest dilemma faced by architects lies in how to deeply understand the cultural differences brought about by Tibetan beliefs - To the Yushu people, faith is a strong one
