D.K. Barton was born in 1972 in Greenwich, Connecticut, USA. He graduated from Harvard University in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree in physics. From 1949 to 1953, he served as an electrical engineer at the Army White Sands communications unit and was responsible for the planning and development of a radar system for tracking guidance in the New Mexico test range. From 1953 to 1955, he was a planning engineer at Evans Communications Laboratory in Belmar, New Jersey, where he was responsible for the development contract for radar beacons and related equipment. From 1955 to 1963, he worked as a system engineer for the Missile and Ground Radar Division of the U.S. Radio Company. He was responsible for the design and development of the AN / UPS-1, AN / FPS-16 and AN / FPS-49 radars. Since 1963, he has served as a radar department at Raytheon Corporation in the United States
