The art of sculpture not only refers to the large works standing in the square and public spaces, but also includes the small works that are practical, decorative and playful. As an important category of Chinese arts and crafts, traditional sculptures have a profound mass base from creation to output, and have established close ties with people’s lives. As the times change, traditional sculptures also undergo some changes in form, technique and function. In the new cultural context, how to make the cultural value of the traditional sculpture fit the contemporary aesthetic spirit? How to deal with the relationship between the inheritance protection and the development of innovation? How to make the past expensive and elegant court art to the mass life? These problems are all needed Contemporary sculptors think deeply. This issue is supported by the editorial department of “Art Observation”. In particular, it invited several masters of arts and crafts engaged in traditional sculptures and put forward many valuable opinions based on their industry characteristics and practical experience.
