Apoptosis has been considered as a critical component of innate immune responses and contributes to the anti-viral defense of the host cells by interfering the viral replication and exposing the virus to extracellular immune surveillance.Previous studies have shown that apoptosis could be induced during porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) infection both in vitro and in vivo, and glycoprotein 5 (GP5),a structural protein of PRRSV,was identified as an apoptosis inducer.
