Crystallization of Polyesters under Shear Flow

  In the case of crystallization after applying shear flow,the so-called shish-kebab structure has been observed.The shish-kebab consists of the long central fiber core (shish),and surrounded by lamella crystals (kebabs) periodically attached along the shish.This might be caused by some precursors induced by shear flow.However;the structure formation process during shear flow is one of the unsolved problems in polymer physics,because of the difficulty of experimentals.To observe the structure formation processes during shear flow,we developed the new-type optical microscope with high-speed camera,that is high-speed polarized optical microscope (HSPOM).We could take pictures at every 1/24000 s.Furthermore,we studied the crystal formation process during shear flow with in-situ small-angle and wide angle x-ray scattering,HSPOM measurements.
