  Marine-derived actinomycetes are emerging as the most important new sources for novel drug discovery and have produced lots of secondary metabolites possessing excellent bioactivities.Our findings demonstrate that marine-derived actinomycetes are rich in taxonomical diversity.Chemical investigations on marine-derived actinomycetes led to the discovery of a number of novel natural products,as exemplified by bisindole alkaloids with unprecedented spiro-rings,1 and indolosesquiterpenes with N-N-linked atropo-diastereomeric scaffolds.Herein we report our continuous efforts to discover novel natural products from marine-derived actinomycetes and the biosynthetic basis to construct such natural products,with a focus on diverse cyclization mechanisms,such as a reductive cyclization in xiamycin,a reductive cyclization in ikarugamycin,and spontaneous cyclization in heronamides.
