As a new class of advanced materials,self-healing materials exhibit the ability to fully or partially recover a functionality.Though it has been classified into intrinsic and extrinsic groups with various synthesis routes and each approach of self-healing differs by the mechanism, the coexistence of molecular diffusion and chemical reaction during the deterioration and recovery in mechanical properties are the main features found in most self-healing schemes.Obviously, the healing efficiency and the performance of the healed materials are strongly dictated by these coupled kinetics in the steps of actuation, transport and repairing of materials. Therefore,it is of vital importance to formulate and model the coupled dynamic processes in conjunction with the evolving mechanical properties for the design and optimization of self-healing materials.
