Apoptosis plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of many disorders,thus the detection of apoptosis can provide the physician with important information to further therapeutic strategies and would substantially advance patient care.By far,the most widely used phosphatidylserine-directed agent still involves fluorescent or biotin-labeled Annexin V,or alternatively radiolabeled forms of annexin V for PET or SPECT of apoptosis in vivo.However,Annexins unfavorable profiles,such as poor target/background contrast ratio,slow clearance from the blood,inhibit its further use in the clinic.
