Progressive tissue fibrosis is a cause of major morbidity and mortality.Pulmonary fibrosis is an epithelial-mesenchymal disorder in which TGF-β1 indubitably plays a central role in the process.Here we showed that follistatin-like 1 (FSTL1) regulated TGF- and BMP signaling leading to epithelial injury while it modulated TGF-,not BMP,signaling leading fibroblast activation.
