Dyslipidemia is one of the majo reversible risk factors for atherosclerotic coronary artery disease.Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C) is the therapeutic target at present as laid down by various guidelines.Life style modification plays an important role in modifying the lipid profile.Statins are safe and effective pharmacologic agents which hav been shown in many primary and secondary prevention trials to reduce LDL-C and mortality.Statins also exhibit p1eiotropic effects i.e.effects beyond lipid modifying actions.They have anti-inflammatory effect, anti thrombotic action and they improve endothelial function.
