Purpose: To assess the influence of loading and cardiomyopathies on maximal torsion (tormax) in pediatric patients.Methods: Patients with DCM (n=18), HCM (n=22), pulmonary stenosis (PST, n=18), patent arterial duct (PDA, n=14),aortic stenosis (AS, n=10) and coarctation (Coa, n=27) were enrolled.(tormax) was assessed by speckle tracking.Results: Patients with DCM had decreased tormax, in HCM tormax was increased with inversely proportional relation to muscle mass.tormax dropped after valvuloplasty in AS and Coa.PDA closure was followed by an increase in tormax;valvuloplasty of PST led to a decrease of tormax.Conclusions: Torsion can be used to evaluate success of interventions and to predict the course of cardiomyopathies.
